Locked Out Of Your Car? 4 Tips On How To Remain Safe

No one looks forward to the day that they lock their keys in the car, but there is a chance that the day will come. When this happens, depending on the time of day and your location, thieves could target you. Therefore, it is important that you know how to remain safe in the event that you experience an automobile lockout. After all, the experience is nerve-wracking enough without having to deal with a thief targeting you. Here are four tips to help keep you safe.

Tip #1: Get in Touch with an Emergency Lockout Locksmith

While there are do-it-yourself methods of getting your keys out of your vehicle, your first step should always be to get in contact with a locksmith like Bilco Safe & Lock, Inc. with experience with emergency lockout situations. Plus, in most situations, you won't have access to one of the DIY methods. You may have a friend, family member or neighbor who has a spare key to your vehicle, but you should not wait for them to arrive. Your only goal is to get into your vehicle as soon as possible. The longer that you wait outside of your vehicle, the more at risk you are.

Tip #2: Call a Friend or Family Member

While a friend, family member or neighbor should not be your first phone call, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't give them a phone call. In fact, it is recommended to call someone other than the lockout service to let them know what is going on. You should remain on the phone with someone until the lockout professional arrives. This way, if something does happen while you are locked out, they will hear what is happening and be able to call 911 and send help to your location.

Tip #3: Remain in a Well-Lit Area

One of the best ways to stay safe while locked out of your vehicle is to make sure that you are always in a well-lit location. For example, the best areas are underneath a street lamp, by a store, etc. You want to always ensure that you are visible, as this will make you less of a target to thieves. They don't want to mess with you if others are able to see the act of a crime taking place.

Tip #4: Move to a Safe Location

If you feel unsafe or unsecure where your area, then it is best to move locations. Go somewhere that is secure, such as a gas station. Make sure that the locksmith knows that you will not be at your car when they arrive and that they will need to call you so that you can meet them.
